Reviewing Our Predictions

I wrote an e-mail on September 30, 2011 which appears on the blog dated November 9, 2011.  I expressed at that time who I thought would not be back with the Giants for a variety reasons including retirement, money ability, etc.  I listed 12 players which included Whiteside, Stewart, Beltran, Burriss, DeRosa, Fontenot,, Burrell, Ford, Ross, Torres, Keppinger and Corbrea.  Burriss was the only player from the list that has made the original 25 man roster for the season. He has shown improvement and had a very good spring but he will have to produce to stay beyond June 1st.

On the December 10, 2011 blog  I wrote who I thought who would make up the team.  Infield would be Belt, Sanchez (if he is ready a big question), Sandoval, Crawford and two reserves.  The outfield would be Pagan, Cabrera, Schierholtz, Huff and a fifth player to be named later.  Posey and Sanchez will be the catchers.

Many writers had Huff at 1st base but I remember the final news conference of the 2011 season when Bochy said Huff would have to compete for playing time in the outfield and Sabean remarked that Bolt is too good a 1st basemen to be playing the outfield.

Then there was the question if Whiteside or Stewart would back up Posey.  I always thought it would be Sanchez because Sabean and the Giants do not want to be embarrassed like they were last year when it came to scoring runs.  This year they could not afford to have a .200 hitting catcher for 40% of the games with weak hitters playing short and second.
